To find the (tangible) book value of a publicly traded stock use S&P NetAdvantage online. Click on the Companies tab at the top of the page and then type in the company’s ticker symbol or its name in the Search by box, and click on the arrow.
Once you’re on the Company Profile page, click on Stock Reports on the left side of the screen. Then page down to the ‘Company Financials’ section of the report and look for Tangible Book Value under the Per Share Data ($) category. Several years of a stock’s annual book value are usually provided.
Book values for stocks are also found in the Value Line Investment Survey which is available on Reserve at the Business/SPEA Information Commons’ circulation desk.
